“I Do” in the Diamond
“Baseball was, is and always will be to me the best game in the world.” — Babe Ruth
During this third episode of Je marie mes parents, I gave Derek, Nathan, Zachary and Magalie chips, peanuts and lots of Cracker Jack in an attempt to convince them to pick me as their wedding planner. I presented them with a baseball concept. Since everyone in their family likes the sport, I thought it would be the ideal wedding theme for them. But unfortunately I failed the test they gave me: opening a bottle of sparkling wine with a baseball glove on one hand and a #1 inflatable glove on the other! And, believe me, it wasn’t because I didn’t try really hard! Doing everything I could to open the — beep — bottle, I even hurt myself. But, in the end, I struck O‑U‑T!
If you like the idea of this theme, here’s what I suggested to the kiddos.
THE CEREMONY
Getting married on the field in the middle of the stadium? Why not!? Five-year-old Derek thought it a little “weird.” But, hey, it’s been done before!

The Minnesota Twins’ Target Field even offers wedding packages. Go take a look at their list, including their “Home Run” and the “Grand Slam” packages.
THE cocktail
During the cocktail, snacks (like Cracker Jack!) would be passed out to guests, game style. Appetizers and beverages could be presented this way, too.

baseball CARDS
During the cocktail, guests would be led to a photo shoot with a thematic background. The photo they’d take would become their souvenir gift. It could even be printed as a baseball card!

The card’s design would include the newlyweds’ names, the date, etc.
HALL OF FAME
Instead of a guest book, friends and family could write their best wishes on baseballs or a bat.

table assignments
Guests would receive their place setting during the cocktail.
REception and décor
I’ve got navy blue and red in mind, but actually, it all depends on your favourite team! Regardless of the colours, we’ll make it elegant!

you may kiss the bride !
Tapping your glass with a utensil to get the newlyweds isn’t very baseball! (Remember, lots of places have a rule against this common practice, to keep their glasses from breaking and their tablecloths clean). To stick to the theme, I suggested to the kids that guests use #1 foam mitts. Wave them in the air and the happy couple smooches. We could even personalize them with the newlyweds’ names, logo, date and so on!

stadium menu
We could offer a stadium menu to calm those late-night munchies. What’s better than hot dogs, pretzels and pizza to finish the party?
WHERE TO GET STUFF
Caps
If you like the caps I gave the kids, personalized with their newly married parents’ initials, you can order your own from Quality Sport.
#1 foam hands
The ones you saw on the show inflate. I bought them at Vezina Party Centre.
Inflatable baseball game
The baseball game (and lots more) is available at Proludik.

“Take me out to the ball game, Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack, I don’t care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team, If they don’t win it’s a shame.
For it’s one, two, three strikes, you’re out, At the old ball game.”
